Supply Chain Game
Simulation environment and training tool for university students
SUPPLY CHAIN GAME
The Supply Chain Game is a simulation environment where the player can experience, in a “real” background, typical supply chain management decisions, facing at the same time consequent effects on company performances
The Supply Chain Game was designed by Makeitalia as an innovative and engaging training tool, used in a number of Italian universities and in Supply Chain Academy courses.
A training tool
It is a simulation model that provides an integrated view of all the factors and business functions involved in Supply Chain management.
The game allows players to understand the consequences of both strategic and operational decisions, offering the opportunity to learn by doing within a realistic simulated environment.
How does it work?
The goal of the game is to identify, at the lowest total cost, the most effective supply chain management strategy — by playing the role of a Supply Chain Manager.
Participants first define their supply chain (selecting suppliers for different components). They must then ensure the continuity of production by managing their chosen suppliers and responding to potential emergencies.
From the Supply Chain Game to the Supply Chain Challenge
The Supply Chain Challenge is an event created by Makeitalia. It is the first national competition in the Supply Chain field, engaging the main Italian universities — in particular, Master’s Degree courses in Management Engineering.
The initiative aims to highlight the best talents — the future professionals who will manage company Supply Chains — through an innovative and competitive challenge.
The event takes its name from the Supply Chain Game and is structured into two main phases:
- a qualification period (Supply Chain Challenge – Italian League), during which students from each university compete in the Game;
- followed by a final stage involving the top-ranked participants from each university, who compete to determine the overall winners.
This event was created with the goal of offering both students and professors the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas with peers from other Italian universities, and discuss a highly relevant topic: Supply Chain Management — while also helping to identify the most promising talent.
